Support to the Pacific Group at the WTO in preparation for MC12

The Pacific Group at the WTO comprises of 6 countries, 3 of which have permanent delegations in Geneva. Supported by the Pacific Islands Forum representation in Geneva (PIF-GVA), the Pacific Group is active in the area of fisheries negotiations – one of the most important issues for Pacific Islands in the multilateral context. In 2017, PIF-GVA contacted TAF2+ to scope out potential support to the Pacific Group at the WTO, including on other important negotiating topics.

The grant was launched in May 2018, focusing on fisheries, services, e-commerce and MSMEs. Through TAF2+, the Pacific Group and other key stakeholders in capitals across the Pacific will receive support prior to and during the July 2018 Geneva Week; coalition building and coordination training; technical, analytical and legal advice  in the lead up to MC12 and in the aftermath; and logistics support to attend key negotiation meetings in Geneva and other important workshops.
